Shinzo Abe, the former Japanese prime minister, has died after being shot during a rally in Nara.

While Mr. Abe was delivering a speech, he was struck by gunfire twice, which caused him to collapse to the floor. His aggressor has been taken into custody.
In a tweet, Yoichi Masuzoe, a former governor of the Japanese city of Tokyo, claimed that Mr Abe, 67, was in cardiac arrest.
Unverified social media videos appear to show paramedics surrounding Mr. Abe in the street. He’s been hospitalized.
When the attack happened, Mr. Abe was giving a speech in Nara as part of his campaign. Several people saw a man with a homemade weapon shoot from behind.
