An Angolan mine reportedly found the largest pink diamond in the last three hundred years.
Miners in Angola have discovered a large diamond that is estimated to weigh more than 170 carats, according to the Australian site operator, Lucapa Diamond Company.
The pink diamond was found at the Lulo mine in the northeast of the country, known for being rich in natural resources.
The Angolan government, which is also a partner in the mine, was pleased to learn of the discovery of the pink diamond.
The diamond is going to be put up for sale in an international auction, where it will most certainly fetch a huge price.
A stone’s true value can only be realized after it has been cut and polished, which might result in the loss of half of its weight.
Angola has one of Africa’s largest offshore oil reserves and is Africa’s second-biggest oil producer. The wealth from these massive assets has altered Angola, yet few citizens have benefited. Instead, most people are poor, unemployed, and lack basic healthcare and education.
