Afghan female tv anchor told to cover their faces
Afghan women on TV ordered to cover their faces
Taliban officials have mandated that Afghan women who work in broadcast media wear face-coverings. Two weeks ago, all women were ordered to wear face veils in public or face punishment.
Women’s rights are being curtailed; they can no longer travel alone and secondary schools are no longer open to female students.
When she heard the latest news, a female Afghan journalist working for a Kabul-based local TV station was “shocked.” Social media users are outraged and accuse the Taliban of taking yet another step toward promoting extremism. In the early 1990s, the Taliban ordered women to wear the burka in public.
After retaking power in August of last year, following the withdrawal of foreign forces, the Taliban postponed the enactment of new laws regarding what clothing women are permitted to wear.
