After apprehending a dangerous truck driver, officials want his license revoked.
Vusi Shongwe, MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison in Mpumalanga, said a truck driver has been arrested for driving dangerously.Shongwe condemned the event, which was extensively shared on social media, saying the driver “placed many lives at danger”
He also said that people like that shouldn’t be allowed to drive because they put other people’s lives in danger.
“People like the driver in question do not deserve to have driving licences. Crashes that involve trucks often produces many fatalities especially when public transport is involved,” he said.
Shongwe asked truck owners to check out the drivers they hire and always teach them how to drive safely. “to ensure that they always adhere to the rules of the road and become road safety ambassadors”. The incident happened on R34 in KwaZulu-Natal, but the truck is registered in Mpumalanga.
The Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison in Mpumalanga also said this. “The driver has since been found and arrested,”
“To ensure such incidences don’t repeat, the department will engage with the owner of the truck. The department will also have a programme to engage other truck owners to ensure safety on the roads.”
Mpumalanga traffic authorities acknowledged the trucking industry’s contribution to the economy, but urged truck drivers to be cautious and disciplined.
