A former Brazilian model who had joined the Ukraine army and trained as a sharpshooter was one of the people who was murdered when a Russian missile destroyed a bunker.Thalita do Valle, who is 39 years old, also fought against ISIS in Iraq.

Last week, she died when a missile hit her bunker in Kharkiv, a city in the northeast of Ukraine that has been heavily bombed since the war started in February.
A former member of the Brazilian Army named Douglas Burigo, 40, who had returned to the bunker in an attempt to locate Thalito, was also killed by the missile hit.

She had previously studied law after working as a model and actress, and documented her experiences in combat zones on YouTube. The videos show how she was trained as a sniper by the Peshmergas, the Iraqi Kurdistan region’s military.

Thalita’s brother, Theo Rodrigo Viera, said she had only been in Ukraine for three weeks, where she had been working as a rescuer as well as a sharpshooter. In addition to that, it was her job to provide cover from the Russian forces that were advancing. Thalita already survived an explosion in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital.
She had warned her family that she would be unable to spend much time chatting on the phone because the Russians were listening in on their conversations on the phone.
After relocating to the city of Kharkiv on the previous Monday, Thalita finally got in touch with her relatives for the last time.
