An accident on Thika-Garissa Highway kills dozens

On Saturday night, June 4, an accident involving a matatu in Kitui County’s Kanyonyoo junction claimed the lives of at least eleven people.

While attempting to overtake another vehicle at a crossroads, the driver of the 14-seater matatu is claimed to have lost control. At the time this piece was written, 11 people had died and more were rushed to hospitals in Machakos and Nairobi.

Not long ago, in a collision near Kinungi on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway involving a lorry, a private car, and a matatu with 14 seats, at least 20 individuals were in critical condition and battling for their lives.

Accidents on Kenyan roads are common.

The catastrophe occurred only five days after a total of nine automobiles were involved in a collision at the same location. At the time of the collision, there were seven private automobiles, one truck, and a matatu with 14 seats. The accident resulted in the death of one individual.

The accident on Saturday night shows how dangerous the roads have been this week, when dozens of people have died.
