Precision airplane crashes into Lake Victoria in Tanzania.
A passenger plane carrying 49 passengers and five crew members crashed into Lake Victoria in Tanzania on Sunday while attempting to land at an airport in Bukoba, state-owned Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) reported.
It said the plane had departed from Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian capital, and was due to land in Bukoba, about 424 kilometers north of the city of Mwanza.
The crash took place in Lake Victoria, near the Bukoba Airport in the northwest region of the country, according to TBC.
Witnesses said the pilot tried to abort the landing attempt and the plane went into a dive but crashed into the lake.
“All the passengers were able to evacuate from the plane,” TBC quoted a witness as saying.
The plane was believed to belong to the private company Precision Air.
